“Remember Not, To Forget”

Just keep swimming.

A note to future me, from 2019.

“Remember not to forget,” I know how it sounds. Like a riddle, or bad grammar. But I’d already lost things by then: lessons I swore I’d keep, names, the reason I started building in the first place. So I made it a spell instead. Say it enough times and it stops being a sentence and starts being true: the things that matter don’t get left behind.

And when the water goes dark (because it will, it always does) there’s only one instruction left. Just keep swimming. Not fast. Not well. Just keep moving, because the forgetting can’t catch what won’t stand still.

That’s the whole post. That’s the whole trick.
